The China Chronicles Day 8 - Guilin to Yangshuo - Photo

#Yangshuo
[Day 8 S]
-> Bamboo Raft to Fuli
-> Light shows
-> Silver Caves

Once again we get to share a bed...is it fate?

Late night dinner after we checked in. We met a friendly local, Serena. She was explaining Yangshuo to us.
Food was pretty crap, western styled food :(

Apparently Yangshuo/Guilin was one of the first tourists spots to have foreigners. Not as polluted like Thailand or Bali though.

The long walk to our hostel. This area is full of markets on certain days/hours of the week.
Really awesome place to checkout

The backdrop for this city feels fake. It is surrounded in mist and rocky out crops.

Gotta take a boat ;) We went down to Puli.
A famous spot for cormoran fishing.

**Activity 1 in Yangshuo - Rafting**

Cheap enough to hire a boat yourself.

We arrived in Yangshuo late on the 7th day.  From there we got lost and couldn't figure out how to go the hostel we booked.
We got some kind of tuktuk that took us out into the middle of the jungle.  We contemplated the idea of being killed.  But comes with the fun.
The hostel we had booked was about 20min walk out of town!
Never would we have made it in the dark.
But it was awesome to stay out in the jungle. So fresh and green.

I still can't believe how picturesque this place is. Something out of a pirate movie.

To order at this restaurant took a couple of attempts. You pay a girl at the front (all menu in chinese) then you take a coupon to one of 6 windows to get your food @_@

Good food :)

Cormoran :) I believe they make a special jacket out of coconut husk. Its extremely heavy and thick. But it keeps the water off the fisherman i believe.

Our stay at: The Stone Bridge - Home Sweet Home in the Valley. Apartment | 22 Shi Ban Qiao Village, Long Tou Shan, Dragon Head Hill Yangshuo

Owner dropped us back into the city

*Activity 2 in Yangshuo -  Caves**

Need i say anything :)

Time for dinner before we see the light show :)

Some tea we got from Guilin before we head off into the night

*Activity 3 in Yangshuo -  The Impressions Light Show**

There are also over 600 performers who are all local people.

The premiere of the Yangshuo Light Show was on March 20th, 2004 at the Sanjie Liu Sing fair, about a mile from West Street . The performance utilizes the natural surroundings to create a spectacular outdoor theatre which is the largest of its kind. The Li River itself is the stage and twelve mountains serve as the backdrop.

The show was directed by Zhang Yimou who also directed the famous 2002 movie 'Hero.' It has received many awards and is included within most tours of the area.

The China Chronicles Day 6 & 7 - JZG & Off to Guilin - Photo

On the way home after a huge track from Chengdu to JZG. 7hours plus on a bus of strangers. Lucky a few could speak english.
We were playing food with one young girl. All we could say was thankyou haha

It snowed over night, WHAT THE HELL!
Last thing i expected to see in April.  It must of been the high altitude. But so awesome to see.

Touch down! First time to see fresh snow fall. I never got to see it in Korea besides at the ski parks.

One long ride back to Chengdu and one late night flight to Guilin. Our HOW! Hostel room :)
Apparently it was the honeymoon suite as all were booked out. It has a view.
~$20 for the night

Guilin & the Li River.

Walking down the streets of Guilin. It was so hot and sticky.  Notally different to the snow of JZG and the dry heat of Chengdu

Sun and Moon Pagodas, Guilin.

Cute artwork on the paths around the pagodas.

 We are here ----->

Were we getting scammed? From walking the streets some painting professor that apparently teaches around the world approached us and took us into his studio.

I had already bought a canvas painting but Shahid bought one on the rice paper.

Looks legit?

Some how from the art studio we ended up drinking tea? Another scam?
One thing we did was try everything and quickly move on. Never hung around to long.
We were introduced to Osmanthus tea (Chinese: 桂花茶; pinyin: guìhuā chá)

Scam or not we got to try something local to Guilin. Even if it was a scam it was still cheap.

I believe we got ripped off when we bought some haha...Well pushed to buy someome?
We also tried lychee tea from memory.

chicken on a stick. it was pretty spicy and good

another street food i tried.

Roaming the streets of Guilin.

#Guilin

[Day 7 F]
-> Solo Walkabout - Purchased train tickets to Kunming (~24hr journey) - 1 day
-> Purchased painting and drank tea :) - chose not to pay entrance to the elephant trunk tour
-> Late bus to Yangshuo then Taxi/TukTuk to hotel (we couldn't find our bearings,  confusing town!)

 HOW! Guesthouse in Guilin.
 We stayed one night then set sail for Yangshuo.
