A Very Special Night @ Odori Guesthouse - Kobe Beef vs Saga Beef - Mobile Edition

My friend that came with me had one goal in Japan besides Fuji and that was to try Japanese Beef.
We were super lucky, a fellow guesthouse stayee (local Japanese lady) was very knowledgeable in cuisine and history and basically everything. In some form of three way, multi-lingual conversation we got started on the Beef topic among other things. She said she knew a place and instantly was on the phone finding out where is the closest Kobe Beef dealer. Just like a car you have to go to the dealer.  The butcher has to be registered and licensed, when you buy the beef it is identified by a serial number. The serial number has so much detail that you can trace it back to the family, where it grew up and where it fed etc.

The steak is package like a Gucci bag. Nice bad, individually wrapped, comes with a little pack to keep it cold

This lady deal in Saga Beef, this is her license

I was going to cooked pasta. So off to the shops

Japanese garlic prices!
China ones were cheaper, but the lady recommended Japanese

 Korokke (Japanese: コロッケ)

No oil was added, this is the oil coming from the fat, soooo juicy
We preferred the saga, we felt you could eat more of it. The Kobe was a lot more richer, where we only needed a little to enjoy.

After dinner some how we ended up at the local Sento. This is much like an Onsen but it doesn't use hot spring water

Overnight in Koyasan & Koyasan Guest house Kokuu - 2/7/2013 to 3/7 - Day 6 & 7 - Mobile Edition

#Osaka to Koyasan (maybe 3hours)
[Day 6 T]
->train and chairlift to Koya
->walk the mountain and the tombs
Koyasan can be reached from Namba Station in Osaka. I believe there is alternative routes near to Wakayama. Pretty regular trains, just be weary of the last bus from Koyasan Station to the city

Koyasan Guest house Kokuu, another place that was really unique and welcoming. I enjoyed staying here and would love to stay during winter when there is snow.

Leaving the city is why I go to Japan. The country side is one of a kind

We purchased a special pass that included train and cable car. Then you take a bus to the main city

Home made curry :) Which was also very good!

<- this bread, is by far the best i have every tried.
OMG it was amazing
Such a simple breakfast but so divine

Koyasan is above sea level, you take a special cable car to get there. There is a hike through the forrest you can attempt :)

We woke up at 5am for the morning prayers. The vocals cant be explained, you must visit and hear for yourself.

#Koyasan to Shizuoka (half days travel)
[Day 7 W]
->5am for morning prayers
->check out the temples
->set off for Shizuoka
->Dinner with Madoka-san and mum
->Long hard pack for Fuji

Osaka Odori Guesthouse - One of the Best Guesthouses Around - - Mobile Edition

I want to have a massive collection of small trinkets like the guesthouses i frequent. All with a story

Odori became my home while I was in Japan. I often popped in for a night while I was figuring out where to go. Staff became friends and frequent drinking buddies :)
I highly recommend it.

Trading stories with fellow guests.
